Welcome to the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors Website!
So What is this New Ethics Requirement, Anyway?
Many of you have received letters or other notification that beginning
July 1, 2007 with the 2008 renewals, a 3 hour minimum in Ethics Contact
Hours will be required. This requirement counts toward your overall
Contact Hour requirement. Ethics-related training programs can included
topics such as dual relationships, ethical standards regarding various
areas of counseling, the new ACA ethics code, among many others. It may
be most likely to fall into the content area of Professional Issues, but
not necessarily. In selecting the most appropriate program to meet your
needs, it is in your best interest to select one that has the term
"Ethics" in the title, so that it is most clear to everyone involved
that it really was about ethics! If you attend conference sessions on
ethics topics, be sure to make a copy of the Continuing Education
application form you submit to the conference planners so that when you
get your Continuing Education certificate back from them later you can
have a corresponding document to submit to the NCBLPC that indicates the
specific programs for which you received credit. For more information
about continuing education, please refer to:
